Beefing Up the Cloud

on July 12, 2012 by Editor

Like a gathering storm, the cloud keeps getting fuller, more robust, and more capable with every passing week.

Back in March, we unveiled Sprint Complete Collaboration, the hosted, Unified-Communications-as-a-Service offering. Earlier this week, we announced a relationship with CSC that enables Sprint to offer CSC's Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions to mid-sized and enterprise business customers throughout the U.S.

Those solutions include cloud computing, cloud-based email, managed hosting, and collocation services. The ever-reliable and powerful Sprint network will provide the path to CSC's Trusted Cloud, and thanks to the CSC relationship, Sprint will by late this year be offering computing, storage, hosting, and backup capabilities to large and mid-sized businesses.

Frank Gens, an IDC chief analyst, gave the CSC-Sprint relationship a thumbs-up when he noted the "great potential" it offers for businesses "to simplify, and speed up, their increasingly strategic deployments of mobile and cloud services.”

While this week the spotlight is on the CSC IaaS relationship, we can't overstate the importance of Sprint Complete Collaboration. As the industry’s most comprehensive currently available hosted and fully managed UC bundle for businesses, it is built on a fully integrated Cisco Hosted Collaboration Solution platform and delivered over an all-IP network. Among its many capabilities, it can quickly and easily deliver innovative collaboration capabilities such as Cisco desktop video experiences and Cisco Jabber on mobile phones and tablets to wherever employees are.

We have emphasized here how important the network is when it comes to the cloud, and John Dupree, senior VP of business sales for Sprint, echoed that sentiment when he noted: “The promise of the cloud is unfulfilled without a superior network, and Sprint is focused on providing a dependable and continually improving network experience that enterprises can trust not just today but as their mobile data demands and operational complexity evolves.”

On the wholesale front, Sprint is delivering an innovative private-label cloud services platform to wholesale customers today, allowing them to deliver simple and affordable brand-name software services to small and midsized businesses. Sprint Wholesale Cloud Services delivers a unique combination of platform services, a full suite of brand-name enablement applications and strong support.

By the way, you will be hearing more about Sprint’s SaaS solutions later this year, as we work with top software providers to deliver new applications via the as-a-service model. Plans call for bundling services to create solutions that are web-accessible by users just about anywhere and on nearly any device
