Healthcare Industry is Looking at M2M

on March 09, 2011 by Wayne Ward

Don’t know if you happened to see it, but there was a good article the other day at RCR Wireless News about Sprint’s presence at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference, focusing particularly on M2M and its potential in healthcare.

The writer spent time with Sprint people at the conference, talking about both the process involved in securing partners to make M2M applications possible and the applications themselves. For example, at-home monitoring and testing, with data and results transmitted wirelessly, saving the patient a trip to the doctor’s office.

Or, as the writer observed, “There are few limiting factors in what mobility can deliver to healthcare and plenty of use cases that haven't even been deployed or developed yet. For example, body monitors can help employers decide which emergency personnel professional or fleet driver is best equipped for a job on the fly. Monitoring sleep patterns and a whole range of biometrics can keep those less equipped out of potentially dangerous situations.”

The article detailed how Sprint does more than provide network connectivity – as important as that is – by offering partners and clients advice on business models and ways to address customer and patient needs. We are also uniting OEM manufacturers with module makers to smooth the path from idea to commercial reality.  It’s worth noting that for every organization and device maker we are proactively approaching, just as many are coming to Sprint on their own.
