Five Blogs to Watch (Mobile)

on June 11, 2009 by Mark Ivey

Starting this month we’ll pick out interesting blogs from different industry sectors (VOIP, wireless, etc) that we think are worth looking at from an IT manager perspective. The first reviews will focus on blogs covering mobile issues, originally featured on VOIP Now’s 100 Best Telecom blogs list.

As that blog points out, the telecom industry is changing dramatically so it’s good to cast a wide net: cutting edge blogs provide a great way to keep up with transitions and trends across the industry, such as mobile UC (unified communications) and how mobility improves productivity.

We’ll be on the lookout for the best ones. Let us know if you have a favorite blog.

Five Mobile Blogs to Watch:

Mobile Monday: Mobile Monday is a global community comprised of mobile industry visionaries, developers and influentials who want to foster cooperation and cross-border business development through virtual and live networking events to share ideas, best practices and trends from global markets. Their goal is to encourage innovation and facilitate networking between small and large companies.

Mobile Open Source: One man show featuring Fabrizio Capobianco, CEO of Funambol, the mobile open source company. Very straight-forward, simple (not even a search feature) but covers lot of ground in his “thinking out loud” format. Plenty of thoughts on mobile community and social networking.

Mobile Phone Blog: Written by the two founders of Movaya, a service provider for digital content to mobile devices, so they promote it as “an Insiders Perspective on the Mobile Phone Industry.” Also covering smartphone hardware, iPhone and Android applications, opinions on cell phone content, reviews of mobile games, critiquing new firms in the market and the health of the global wireless industry. Direct, well written reviews and good coverage of the wireless industry.

MocoNews.net: Biz-tech journalist and entrepreneur, Rafat Ali, created MocoNews in 2002 to focus on the business of the mobile content market. Well written, thoughtful--a straight forward news style. Recent subjects ranged from Apple lawsuits to consumer survey over mobile banking to RIM’s hiring of one of the original powers behind the iPhone interface.

MobHappy: MobHappy is a collaborative effort between Russell Buckley and Carlo Longino, a mobile marketer and a writer about mobile devices. Posts are pithy, creative, often humorous and insightful. For instance in its recent review on Sprint’s splashy new commercial, The Now Network, it adds that, “….it does illustrate quite how powerful an operator could be if it could ever harness all this information in realtime and make it available to marketers in a seamless and useful experience..”
