Have you ever noticed that many business fliers are aisle seat people? They want to be able to get up and stretch their legs during the flight, and they want to be able to get off the plane as soon as they can when the flight is over.
But some of us prefer the window seat. We like to look out and see where we are, how fast we’re going, what altitude we’re at, and what the weather is doing. We may not be able to control any of it, but we still like to know what’s going on.
Compass, our online portal that comes with IP/MPLS VPN service, is a lot like having a window seat when you’re flying the Sprint network. Compass is designed so you can view, understand, and manage your own network configuration and performance, from router port connections to bandwidth usage, as well as view what’s going on inside the Sprint core network.
You get a thorough picture of your network at any given time. If there’s something happening you don’t like, such as a bandwidth constraint, you can investigate to see the reason why. It may be only temporary, or it could mean a change is needed in the network configuration. Odds are that our network people will see it too, but to be sure, you can alert us to the issue.
Technical people tell us all the time that they love this monitoring ability, because it puts a level of control in their hands that helps them solve network mysteries on their own. And they like the confidence that comes from being able to see that the network is performing to their needs and what changes are being made to keep it running at peak efficiency.
That’s not the case with other network providers, who don’t offer this type of visibility. For them, there are only aisle seats; and if there’s trouble in the network, they just tell you to buckle up and hold on tight; you may get to your destination, but you can’t see anything along the way. We can’t help but believe that when it comes to networks, the window seat is the place to be.
