Great ROI but Slow Uptake is UC Disconnect

on June 04, 2013 by Editor

Interesting article over at NoJitter, where analyst Michael Finneran reports that the rate of UC adoption appears to have slowed, even as companies are reporting that its ROI exceeds their expectations.

You can read the article in its entirety here, but Finneran has an interesting perspective because he has been in charge of an annual UC survey for a few years, putting him in a good position to note trends.

For instance, three years ago, 30 percent of users reported some deployment of UC. A year and a half later it was 36 percent, but in the latest survey, it was 38 percent. Not exactly Walmart at 12:01 a.m. on Black Friday.More...

Video in the Making

on June 06, 2013 by Heidi Gigler

Mobile solutions and devices are bursting at the seams and creating more opportunities to share, communicate, engage, and conduct business. Mobility is one of the great enablers of video, a medium that is wildly popular with consumers and becoming a preferred communication method for marketers, educators, and other business groups. With 2013 being the Year of Video, as some are prophesizing, enterprises can begin taking advantage now. More...

Mobility in the Wild

on May 30, 2013 by Heidi Gigler

You know it is happening. You may even have experienced it – mobility in the wild. Being connected in places you wouldn’t expect, through mobile devices and technology. I just returned from Spain – a cross country trip through the big cities and ancient towns, one that took me through remote country sides to the seaside speckled with tiny villages. It wasn’t that long ago since I last visited Europe, yet what surprised me about this trip was how mobility was ubiquitous throughout Spain, in just about every kind of traveler’s experience. Wide Open

on May 22, 2013 by Heidi Gigler

We are living and working in a more open, transparent society. While privacy boundaries are blurring, (almost anything can be found on the Internet today, and video cameras are ubiquitous in public places) society at the same time is benefitting from real-time networking, creative collaboration, and access to information. The open society is yielding great benefits. Consider these:More...

You Might Call this ‘Greens’ Technology

on May 21, 2013 by Editor

About the onlything it doesn’t do is carry your golf bag.

Now, we know this isn’t particularly an enterprise technology, but it’s about Sprint and it’s about golf, so how can we resist writing about it?

Sprint announced recently an M2M (machine-to-machine) venture with Digital Caddies, in which we will provide wireless coverage and Android tablet hardware for the new Digital Caddies “Players Network.” More...

Finding What You Want in the Cloud

on May 20, 2013 by Braj Thakur

What is it that enterprises want in the cloud, and in their cloud provider? While the specifics may vary a bit from company to company, there are some general conclusions that can be drawn.

In a new white paper from the industry research firm Ovum, the "what do we want" question is addressed, in part through a survey of 200 IT decision makers. Asked to rate the factors that influence their decision to invest in cloud services, the leading reason is cost cutting, both in the IT department itself and across the entire operation.More...

Always advancing in providing ways for enterprises to leverage the advantages of the cloud, Sprint has introduced a new IaaS solution that offers an appealing combination of security, flexibility, and simplicity on top of a truly cloud-aware network.

Sprint CloudCompute, announced Monday, integrates the power of CSC's virtualized utility-based computing solution in the cloud with a robust, reliable, and secure network. As a solution, CloudCompute enhances an organization's IT agility. It makes it possible to quickly turn up additional computing resources when needed, or dial them down just as quickly once particular missions are accomplished. More...

Hand in Hand Managed Network and Managed Security Solutions

on May 13, 2013 by Heidi Gigler

Traditionally, of all managed services options, IT was likely to first consider managed network solutions (MNS). It was a natural evolution, partnering with other outside experts who could manage the day-to-day operations of the corporate network while IT in turn could reduce costs and focus resources toward initiatives driving business value for the organization. Then, as network security threats became a growing issue, more enterprises began adopting managed security services. Yet security has been inherent within managed networks all along, beginning even in the network design phase. More...
