Convergence: It's Transformational

on June 11, 2012 by Editor

Convergence, says Michael Suby of Frost & Sullivan, is about transformation and possibilities. A number of current technology trends leverage the power of convergence and point the way toward further possibilities in the future.

In the fourth in a series of Sprint-sponsored convergence white papers, Suby addresses three of those trends: Device proliferation and personalization, cloud computing, and social networking. More...

The Perilous BYOD Landscape

on June 07, 2012 by Editor

We didn't find out about a white paper on Bring Your Own Device Security until after we had written our post about the new Sprint Device Management addition to the Professional Mobility Services portfolio, but it has some interesting data that complements what we had to say.

The white paper, available at Webtorials (registration is no longer required), is based on a survey of more than 500 IT professionals – 60 percent of whom represent enterprises. We would have loved to have had the results of this survey broken out by size of organization, so we could focus on the enterprise responses, but with that high a percentage of enterprise respondents, the results probably provide a reasonably good picture of the enterprise BYOD security landscape. Killing Me Softly

on June 06, 2012 by Christopher Glenn

As I was thinking about Mobile Device Management this morning, I was asking myself what the appropriate term was for technology that allows an enterprise to erase its data from an employee’s (or former employee’s) personal device. I started Googling terms like “Intelligent Kill Pill” and eventually came across the term “selective wipe.” More...

Moving to the Cloud-Intelligent Network

on June 04, 2012 by Braj Thakur

Maybe it's time to finally retire the term "dumb pipes" to describe the public network. In our business, as you can imagine, we aren't particularly fond of it.

But in the cloud era, it's such an inaccurate description that it's like calling something that you like "groovy." Unless you're Austin Powers, that just won't fly. More...

Dealing with Business Disruptors

on May 29, 2012 by Editor

Bad things are going to happen to your network. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but sometime. How you prepare for them will help determine just how much damage they do to the network, to your business, and to the way your organization is perceived in the market.

In the third in a series of convergence white papers, available here, Michael Suby of Frost & Sullivan looks at the role of convergence in terms of network reliability, security, and creation of an environment that he says is "designed to minimize operational risk."More...

Taking Control of BYOD

on May 24, 2012 by Editor

In a world where BYOD – bring your own device – is becoming the rule, rather than the exception, the management challenges multiply with every new smartphone or tablet that finds its way into the office.

Which is why it's a good time for the latest addition to the Sprint Professional Mobility Services portfolio. Sprint Device Management, which we recently announced, handles mobile device management and security across multiple carriers and operating systems. More...

The Gray Line – Privacy versus Openness

on May 22, 2012 by Heidi Gigler

Whether it is for business or pleasure, we all expect to be able to connect and communicate instantly anywhere, anytime. Unified Communications and collaboration technology is enabling the world to connect seamlessly. It is becoming easy and familiar. Yet we are at a crossroads.  How does an individual or corporation balance privacy and openness? Can it even be done? More...

The Accidental Security Breach

on May 17, 2012 by Heidi Gigler

Cyber war, cyber-terror. It sounds frightening out there. Yet the scariest security breach may be the one you don’t know about. The accidental security breach is the one that is not malicious, at least from the users’ stand point. The unsuspecting user happens onto an event and inadvertently creates a risky situation. IT is Not What it Seems ...

on May 08, 2012 by Heidi Gigler

... Not in the future, that is. IT is about to go through a great transformation. It has to, given the velocity at which technology is evolving.

IT expenditures will be happening more outside the traditional boundaries of corporate IT, says Gartner. Today, some enterprises already spend more than 50 percent of IT expenses outside of corporate IT. Business units often partner with third parties when they need a solution faster than corporate IT can deliver. Interestingly, it’s not about IT’s capability, rather it’s more about the innovations in the marketplace that are being created, affordable and easy to use. More...

Hosted UC is Focus of May 10 Webinar

Although it's almost always cost savings that ends up in the leading role, sometimes it's a supporting player that steals the show.

That was the case for Paul Seibert, who heads network operations for Snelling (the staffing people) and Intrepid USA Healthcare. Even though executives almost always look first at what implementing Unified Communications might save the company, that's not a concern for Seibert. More...
