You Might Call this ‘Greens’ Technology

on May 21, 2013 by Editor

About the onlything it doesn’t do is carry your golf bag.

Now, we know this isn’t particularly an enterprise technology, but it’s about Sprint and it’s about golf, so how can we resist writing about it?

Sprint announced recently an M2M (machine-to-machine) venture with Digital Caddies, in which we will provide wireless coverage and Android tablet hardware for the new Digital Caddies “Players Network.” More...

Convergence Hits the Road with Sprint Velocity

on December 19, 2012 by Editor

Convergence  is all about communications anywhere and anytime, whether person to person or machine to machine. That would have to include our vehicles, then, wouldn't it?

That's why there was so much interest and enthusiasm about Sprint Velocity, the global, end-to-end solution for auto makers, at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sprint unveiled this solution set at a press conference packed with automotive media and auto industry executives.More...

Industrial Internet

on December 05, 2012 by Christopher Glenn

GE CEO Jeff Immelt’s guest post on GigaOm this week focused on the arrival of the "Industrial Internet," which he says will surpass the magnitude of the development and adoption of the consumer Internet.

Immelt defines the Industrial Internet as an open, global network that connects people, data, and machines. The Industrial Internet leverages the cloud to connect intelligent machines that sense and report a broad array of data, helping people find meaning that would not be obvious without this level of connectivity and analytical intelligence. You should have been there. Or maybe you were one of the 1,200-plus attendees who were there, in which case you know that the just-concluded 2012 annual Sprint Open Solutions conference was a big success. It was all that we told you it would be in some of our pre-conference posts.

For instance: in one session we focused on connected transportation solutions from Sprint, combining the latest in wireless telematics and location technology to enable valuable real-time vehicle status and driver performance information.More...

Mobile App Developers Riding High in IT Hiring Plans

on October 16, 2012 by Editor

It's always nice to hear good news, but even better when the timing is just right. That was our reaction when we spotted an InformationWeek item about the latest IT hiring trends.

Art Wittman's article, based on an IT staffing survey by the magazine, showed that the top hiring category is ... application development. This was especially timely, with Sprint's 12th annual Open Solutions conference coming up in less than two weeks (October 24-25). Combining the invaluable information and networking for developers that the conference offers with a "hot" job market (InformationWeek's description) makes for a real winner. By the way, you can register here for the conference. More...

on July 02, 2012 by Christopher Glenn

One still-emerging area of our converged world is connecting the myriad endpoints within our reach into the network. We’ve all heard of wide area networks (WANs) and local area networks (LANs), but you’ll soon be hearing more about Body Area Networks (BANs), thanks to a recent FCC decision authorizing the redeployment of spectrum. 4G: It’s More about the Enterprise Applications than the Technology

on June 23, 2011 by Heidi Gigler

Enterprise IT knows it’s coming: the tsunami of wireless data, video, and voice traffic. Cisco forecasts video to dominate IP traffic in the next few years. Today, companies are virtualizing data storage and moving as much of their business to IP as they can to help curtail the data deluge. On top of that, more employees work in a virtual or mobile environment, increasing the need for wireless communication. Enter 4G. More...
