Unifying UC and Mobility

on April 19, 2012 by Editor

When it comes to leveraging the magic combination of Unified Communications and mobility – and you can't deny that UC isn't really unified until it is mobile, especially in today's environment – an enterprise does have to take a few things into consideration

The factors to consider are spelled out well in a recent Tech Notes article by Gary Audin. For instance, a typical IT organization is going to have to support four distinct mobile profiles. They are the road warrior, the person who's always on the road visiting customers, for example; the teleworker, the person who works most or all of the time at home; the campus roamer, who's always at a meeting somewhere or on his or her way to one; and the nomad, who works outside the office but typically at a specific location, such as a client site. But when Network World ran a recent series of posts on the history of Unified Communications and collaboration, we have to admit we were more interested in the series-ending conclusions and perspective on where we are now and where we are going than we were in the evolution. Especially since the author was Larry Hettick, the Current Analysis analyst. More...

WiFi is and has been a powerful tool, one that has allowed millions of employees to shed wires and work wherever it’s most convenient. Don’t be Fooled. Unified Mobility is Just Another Name for FMC.

on May 08, 2009 by Dan Jacobson

Interop (May 19-21) is just around the corner. I can remember when it was held in places such as Atlanta and San Francisco before Las Vegas and New York (the East Coast version) became its permanent homes. Maybe that wasn’t so long ago, but it sure seems like it. More...

Moving to FMC: A Play in Three Acts

on April 29, 2009 by Shaun Ledgerwood

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,” William Shakespeare told us, and that’s a useful way to view the migration to enterprise fixed-mobile convergence; think of it as a three-act play, and if done right, it’s a performance with a happy ending for all your company’s players. Four Key Benefits of Enterprise Femtocells

on April 16, 2009 by Dan Jacobson

A recent article in UC Magazine by Richard “Zippy” Grigonis caught my attention. Despite the magazine’s usual B2B focus, most of the article addressed the consumer benefits of femtocells. Which is fine, except the emphasis on coverage – particularly when it comes to the enterprise – sells femtocells short. The technology is far more encompassing than that. More...
