iPad Dominating the Enterprise BYOD Movement

on May 16, 2012 by Christopher Glenn

GigaOm recently released a free report, “Enterprise mobility perceptions among IT decision makers,” that examines cloud computing, big data, and enterprise mobility. The report highlights data collected by GigaOm from 304 enterprise IT decision makers.

The findings included an observation that, while 80 percent of all enterprises support mobile phones as part of their infrastructure, the size of the business seemed to have little impact on a company’s decision to support such mobility. The report also provides a glimpse into the market share for iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows devices (I won’t spoil the suspense as I hope you’ll go grab your own copy of the report), as well as some insight into application support. on July 12, 2010 by Steve Coker

Sometimes you read a headline online that just makes you feel like the world is heading in the right direction. That happened the other day, with this article on TMCnet. It proclaims, “Mobility and UC: A Match Made in Heaven.” More...

What Enterprise Mobility Means

on July 08, 2010 by Christopher Glenn

With all the buzz around cloud computing, social media and mobility, it may be tough to see the forest for the trees when one hears the word "Enterprise Mobility." If you type in the term on Wikipedia, you are taken to Enterprise Mobility Management. To me, EMM is really about how an enterprise manages personal mobile devices – it's not about enterprise mobility. Enterprise mobility is much broader, about giving the company itself (not just individuals within the company) the tools and technologies to do business anyplace, anytime, anywhere.More...

on July 01, 2010 by Steve Coker

Mark Lowenstein, of Mobile Ecosystem, had an interesting take on enterprise mobility in a piece he wrote for FierceWireless last month. He was talking about the recent lack of high-profile mobile applications in the enterprise, and why he thinks that’s about to change and what is needed to revive the momentum. More...

Where Enterprise Mobility is Going

on December 22, 2009 by Mark Ivey

Russ McGuire had a great chat recently with Strategy Analytics analyst and blogger Philippe Winthrop, discussing how the Mobility Revolution is shaping up and why it’s so critical for IT departments. Russ believes that the mobility movement will impact business as much as the earlier PC and Internet Revolutions, and companies should be rapidly preparing.More...

Memo to the Boss: What You Don't Know about Sprint

on June 03, 2009 by Steve Parrott

I was recently asked by a Sprint customer, who was under pressure by his boss, who was questioning him about staying with Sprint.  The contract was up for renewal in a few months, and while they were apparently pleased with our MPLS services, his boss was asking some fair questions—particularly, given all of the noise out there regarding Sprint. Getting the Best Remote Coverage

on February 26, 2009 by Dan Jacobson

As good as the wireless infrastructure is in this country, we all know that you can’t always get perfect coverage everywhere. That’s a concern for remote office or home-based workers, particularly as the companies they work for move to wireless-wireline integration and eventually come to standardize on mobile phones. 2011: Tipping Point for 2-Phone Living?

on February 17, 2009 by Dan Jacobson

Last month, I wrote that “the days of two-phone living may just be numbered” in a post focusing on how the mobile phone is clearly becoming the dominant device in corporate America. Now Gartner is pinning down that number, with a prediction that by 2011, North American enterprises will be supporting more mobile phones than desktop phones. More...

Free? Well, Not Quite …

on December 03, 2008 by Dan Jacobson

Is solar energy free? Well, if you don’t count the $30,000 or more for the rooftop panels, along with batteries to store the power, a meter to allow selling power back to the utility, and other sundry equipment, I suppose it is. But of course, you do have to factor those things when you analyze the “real” cost of your electricity. More...
