Kudos to the retail successes of Cyber Monday – record-breaking sales despite a not-so-booming economy. The online shopping day that occurs the Monday following Thanksgiving resulted in $1.8 billion in sales by one estimate, 22 percent more than last year. Super Internet giant Amazon.com experienced a 52 percent sales increase on Cyber Monday compared to 2010. Incredible!  Just as surprising, the top five Internet retailers after Amazon are also brick-and-mortar stores: Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and Apple. On November 9th, the world celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Let’s look astoundingly at how our world has changed since 1989. We are communicating in ways never before imagined. To experience this in our lifetime is remarkable. To think about bandwidth and network requirements to meet our insatiable demand for voice, data, video, and the web, is mind-boggling.
