Don't Give Up On SaaS

on June 08, 2010 by Christopher Glenn

So last week, in my post called "The Pendulum Swings Toward the Cloud," I talked about how even caches of cloud-based elements could exist in the LAN of the future to cut down on the round-trip time into and out of the cloud. Really, this issue can’t be over-emphasized. I have used the leading Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications over a network, and I don't think many executives appreciate the extent to which latency makes or breaks a SaaS application. on June 07, 2010 by Mark Ivey

Anyone who pays much attention to the “mobile device” scene knows that consumers rule. The market is all about style, creating buzz with the device, and loading up on its fun and games capabilities. If somebody can use it for business, fine, but that’s not what matters. More...

Wireless Security and the Brooklyn Bridge

on June 01, 2010 by Steve Parrott

My first thought, as I started speaking to the audience at the Security Forum in New York a few weeks ago, was that this is going to be a tough crowd. The topic was “Securing the Wireless Workforce,” and from comments and body language, I could tell that these folks (members of the Technology Managers Forum) had real doubts about “wireless” and “security” even being mentioned in the same breath. Communication Devices for the Business User in a UC World

on May 28, 2010 by Heidi Gigler

Devices matter.  At first glance, people may think of devices as a commodity – just “plug and play”.  Today’s mobile devices, particularly the smartphone may be limited by the provider, the applications available, the operating system, the number of features based upon an IT policy, or even compatibility and coverage, etc. More...

The Pendulum Swings Toward the Cloud

on May 27, 2010 by Christopher Glenn

All computing used to be cloud computing. I remember playing Oregon Trail on a teletype dialed into the Minnesota Education Computing Consortium's mainframe (that was cloud computing). It was only after the client-server revolution that the pendulum swung the other direction away from the cloud and the game was thereafter distributed on floppy and CD to elementary schools outside of Minnesota. Getting Global Business-Class Treatment

on May 24, 2010 by Admin

I’ve written before about the plight of the “forgotten globals,” those global companies that are not quite big enough to deserve the front-of-the-cabin, can-I-get-you-some-wine treatment from most of the biggest telecom carriers (Sprint being a notable exception), even though in many cases they need the expert attention even more than the biggest enterprises.
