You Might Call this ‘Greens’ Technology

on May 21, 2013 by Editor

About the onlything it doesn’t do is carry your golf bag.

Now, we know this isn’t particularly an enterprise technology, but it’s about Sprint and it’s about golf, so how can we resist writing about it?

Sprint announced recently an M2M (machine-to-machine) venture with Digital Caddies, in which we will provide wireless coverage and Android tablet hardware for the new Digital Caddies “Players Network.” More...

on May 10, 2013 by Editor

If we weren’t able to visit with you this week at Interop, or perhaps you skipped the show, you may have missed our announcement about CloudCompute. This new cloud offering provides a secure, private network and seamless connectivity, on-demand provisioning and management, and a single contract and invoice for all services. The Dawning of the Age of ET

on May 01, 2013 by Editor

In the beginning, there was MIS. It begat IT, which is now in the process of begatting ET.

No, this isn't a quotation from the tech bible. It is a shorthand description of the evolution that we have seen over the past half century in the way businesses handle technology. Those  early days of dumb terminals  and mainframes – the MIS era – gave way to individual computers that spawned what we now think of whenever we hear "IT." More...

Managing (Services) to Achieve Success

on April 22, 2013 by Editor

The best recommendation for any technology is the success of the company using it. We all learn more from seeing how someone else is putting a technology or a solution to work – and seeing real benefits – than we do from all the marketing materials a vendor can throw at us

With that in mind, we recommend you browse on over to this particular case study in the use of Managed Network Services. It's about Excelitas Technologies and how that company's search for a reliable network provider brought it to Sprint.

In a nutshell, Robert Ersoni, Excelitas' IT Director, wasn't just looking for a high-performing network. He wanted visibility into that network and he wanted to offload the routine duties from his staff, freeing them to focus on more strategic objectives. More...

I Before E, Especially in T

on April 15, 2013 by Editor

Do they teach that spelling rule anymore in school? You know, the old "I before E except after C" rule. The one that explains why you spell words like relief and grief and believe one way, but receipt and conceit a different way.

Well, spelling rules notwithstanding, the I before E rule is a good way to help remember the key point of an April 24 Sprint-sponsored webinar. More...

Sprint's Magical Network Progress

on April 09, 2013 by Editor

A concerted drive to grow our global MPLS, Ethernet, and SIP Trunking coverage for both business and wholesale customers has been recognized by Gartner in its latest "Magic Quadrant" assessments of the service provider landscape.

For anyone not familiar with the Magic Quadrant, it's a Gartner specialty to analyze a technology and develop rankings that position, for example, the vendors of that technology into one of four boxes in a square, based on parameters that vary with the particular analysis. The technique has now been enshrinedofficially as the Magic Quadrant. The rankings are watched closely by some of  us in what is probably as close as we get in the technology world to the excitement of an American Idol or DWTS. More...

Convergence White Papers Redux

on April 02, 2013 by Editor

In case you missed them the first time around, a pair of Stratecast-Frost & Sullivan white papers focused on convergence are resurfacing for a second life.

The papers – Technology Convergence and Information Velocity: the Engines for Business Agility and Workforce Productivity and Simplification through Convergence: Reducing Cost and Complexities – were both sponsored by Sprint, which gave us the opportunity to highlight them before they were made available to the general public. It's Excellent to be Green

on March 27, 2013 by Editor

One thing about Sprint. We make it look easy to be green.

Who said it wasn't? Oh yeah, this guy. But that was a long time ago, and now it's the responsible thing to do, and it's not really that hard when you make the corporate commitment.

Which leads to the latest recognition for Sprint's environmental efforts, in the form of the 2013 North American Award for Green Excellence, from Frost & Sullivan.More...

Compass Portal Goes Under the Microscope

on March 19, 2013 by Editor

Recently, Sprint asked an outside research and consulting firm to take a close look at Compass, Sprint's online portal for IP/MPLS VPN service. The idea was to get a "second opinion," and we now have it.

The outside firm happens to be named Compass Intelligence (no relation to Compass the Portal), and the paper they generated after looking at the portal can be found here. It's worth taking a close look at, but we'll hit a few highlights for you.

First, if you're not familiar with Sprint Compass, it lets you view, understand, and manage your network configuration and performance. We enhanced it in mid-2012 (see the summary we wrote at the time) with a number of self-service features that support both Sprint Managed Solutions customers and network-only customers.More...

You Can't Miss Sprint at Enterprise Connect

on March 11, 2013 by Editor

If you're among the thousands heading to Enterprise Connect in Orlando next week, there will be lots of opportunities to hear Sprint people offer their perspective, on everything from SIP Trunking to mobile Unified Communications.

During the course of the annual conference, five panels – four of them on Monday the 18th – will include Sprint representatives. As you're putting together your must-see Enterprise Connect schedule, here are the sessions that we recommend:

SIP Trunking: Who's Offering What? This 9 a.m. Monday roundtable discussion has a stageful of panelists, including Sprint's own Dimitrios Kioukis, Manager of Converged Solutions Engineering. The focus of this session is how an enterprise can procure the right SIP Trunking services and equipment to make a SIP technology initiative a success.More...
